TAL is an internationally operating Düsseldorf based record label established in 2016 by Stefan Schneider. Concurrent with a continuous and carefully curated selection of releases, TAL has also become a home for a wide variety of multidisciplinary artistic activities, research, archival projects, exhibitions, public talks, live events and has also initiated a number of musical and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Since the very beginning TAL had its antennae well adjusted to the unpredictable, ever shifting world around us. Instead of working along the lines of a prewritten concept or a dominant design identity, TAL decided to abandon preconceptions in order to make new discoveries along the route and to combine different kinds of music into unexpected and new contexts.

Still in the first eight years of its existence and after more than 30 releases, TAL has managed to develop its own recognisable language in the landscape of contemporary music.

LISTENED TO BY OTHERS is a curated selection of music that seeks to translate the variety of the label's catalogue into a coherent overview. All tracks on LISTENED TO BY OTHERS are exclusive and have not been released elsewhere.

With an emphasis on contemporary sound cultures the compilation presents a wide ranging musical panorama, from modular electronic pieces by SAM PREKOP, to Kenyan a capella Dodo music of singer OGOYA NENGO , Japanese producer KOPY, established pioneers like ASMUS TIETCHENS and MIKI YUI, archive recordings of Venzuelan Folk music from the 1970’s/80’s by OSWALDO LARES and also seminal reissues of Düsseldorf’s early 80’s mutant proto techno by KONRAD KRAFT.

LISTENED TO BY OTHERS also previews forthcoming album releases by artists who are new to TAL such as GARTH ERASMUS from Cape Town or RAZEN from Brussels plus a new musical collaboration with fine art super star KATHARINA GROSSE.
